Construction of inter-state connectivity created demand for construction of ISBT and ISTT. As a result, the NEC has started construction of ISBT and ISTT from Ninth Plan onwards. So far 11 Nos. of ISBT/ISTT have been taken up at the cost of Rs.107.02 crores. Prior to the 9th Plan, ISBT/ISTT at Dimapur had been completed. Out of the 11(eleven) ISBTs/ ISTTs taken up in the 10th Plan, ISBT, Guwahati, ISBT & ISTT, Silchar have already been completed. ISBT-Aizawl is targeted to be completed by March, 2007. ISTT Guwahati, ISBT Jorhat in Assam, ISBTs at Kohima, Mokokchung in Nagaland and International Bus Terminus at Agartala in Tripura are in different stages of completion.

The ongoing ISBT/ISTT balance works are targeted to be completed by the first two years of the 11th Plan.
