(a) Drinking water & Sanitation facilities to 988 Nos. of ICDS centres in Sikkim
Historical Background
This proposal was submitted by Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department of Govt. of Sikkim. Altogether 988 such centres are targeted for providing good drinking water. But the NEC has sanctioned only 315 centres this year.
Objectives
The objective of the scheme is to construct a water storage tank of 100 litres capacity for 315 centres initially and provide 1 dia. poly pipe of 200 m each for 315 centres to improve the nutritional and health care of children below 6 years.
(b) Storm water & Drainage Development Schemes for Gangtok, Sikkim.
Historical Background
The entire State of Sikkim lies in high intensity rainfall zone and, consequently, monsoon rainfall starts from May and lasts till October. In the absence of proper and efficient system of storm drains, severe calamities have occurred causing extensive damage to life and properties. Aforesaid scenario warranted formulation of this scheme which was accorded administrative approval by the NEC in August, 2004. A total of 10 river training works are included in this scheme.
Objectives
The main objective of the scheme is to reduce the flood damage caused by storm water during monsoon season to lives & properties by construction of surface drains, construction of catch water drain, construction of cross drainage structures, etc.
(c) Kaluk-Richangpong Water Supply Scheme (W.S.S.), Sikkim.
Historical Background
The project site is located at a distance of 50 kms from the district headquaters of Gyalshing in West district. Both Kaluk and Richangpong are rural marketing places where supply of safe drinking water is of primary importance. In absence of reliable source of water there was a need of a W.S.S and this proposal was conceived. The NEC has given administrative approval to this scheme in February '04.
Objectives
The objective of the scheme is to cater to water supply to the projected population of 13,330 besides providing water fire fighting by construction of clear water reservoir, sedimentation tank, chlorination shed, distribution network electrification etc.
(d) Construction of New distribution system Ravangla Town in South Sikkim.
Historical Background
The existing Ravangla W.S.S is having 450 connections at present and supply water to population of about 9000 which also includes a high floating population due to tourism. The proposed scheme is to upgrade the distribution network by providing connections to 800 domestic and 12 public posts. This scheme was accorded administrative approval by the NEC in February, 2005.
Objectives
The objective of the scheme is to construct distribution box, valve box, and fire hydrant, construction of 6 Nos. of water storage tanks, providing filter media in filter tank, repair of T & P etc.
(e) Lachen Bazar, W. S. S. in Sikkim.
Historical Background
Lachen is a small town in North Sikkim and a new tourist destination and the tourism industry has grown tremendously as tourists use to visit Guru Dongmar lake, Cholamu lake, Lachen valley & Tibetan Plateau. The present population of the area is around 7321. To cater to the need of the local population and floating tourist this proposal was conceived as a gravity flow type from a source called 'Saboo chu'. The scheme was approved by the NEC in February '04.
Objectives
The basic objective of the scheme is to provide safe drinking water to the habitants by constructing a Head works consisting of Intake tank, Sedimentation tank, Row Water pipe line and distribution network, approach footpath to the plant etc. |
